Bumps and bruises can happen when we dare play on the playground of our creative life.  A painting doesn’t sell, a critic jabs where it hurts or a creative plan falls apart. All of that can be an “ouch,” and we wish there were someone to dry our tears, give us a kiss and make it all better.

The good news is that compassion exists. The surprising news might be that it is up to us to allow it and even give it to ourselves.

Where could your creative journey use a dose of compassion? Feeling fear, getting caught in the muck, falling short of lofty expectations, taking “U-turns” on along the way can leave us feeling banged up a bit. Even getting blocked or stuck can feel yucky. Compassion is a welcome companion on the journey.

The softness of clouds reminds me of the kindness that compassion provides. We practice as best we can how to understand our feelings, forgive our foibles, and love ourselves through all manner of creative flops. And there’s no time like the present to bring that softness close.

What past artistic experiences call for the salve of compassion? Could you use a touch of understanding in this present moment? What future steps are calling for compassion no matter the results?

Practice creative compassion today and allow your strength to renew.
