So, on Sunday I came home after church and a quick unsuccessful search for free wood chips and I saw that my neighbor Eli was tending to his garage sale.  Eli is a bike wizard.  Just for fun, he and a buddy  have rounded up dozens of secondhand bikes, fixed them up and given them away to kids.  Just for fun.  I walked over and asked Eli how much he would charge to tune up my basement-bound bike that has sadly missed more seasons than I care to report.  He named a generous price and deftly lifted the bike, cobwebs and all, onto his handcrafted stand and went at it.  We chatted, his wife Erin came outside, we chatted some more and in no time my bike was ready to roll, good as new.  I haven’t ridden it yet, but at least it’s ready and has been upgraded to the porch.

As I was leaving, very grateful for the time to be with my neighbors on a Sunday afternoon, we were talking about how you just never know how the kind and generous Universe will provide what we’re looking for, if we ask and look, too.  I mentioned that I was hunting for free wood chips, and Erin said, “We have some bags we won’t use.  Do you want ’em?”  Now my garden beds are happy and grateful, too.
