Last year my neighbor and jewelry artist, Tia Salmela Keobounpheng, shared a tomato plant from the surplus of her abundant garden. It turned out to be a hearty cheery tomato variety that kept me in delicious red fruit all season long. The surprise blessing this year was to discover five or six plants coming up where last year’s bounty had fallen to fertile ground from the single stem.
What a great metaphor for the art of creative abundance in community. The kindness of a neighbor graced my table all summer, and now the rewards have already multiplied many times over. Tomatoes anyone?
