Sensations of summer seem heightened. Cherries taste sweeter, humid nights feel super sticky, sharp bee stings linger and light sparkling off the lake shimmers more than usual. What is calling our attention? And what does paying attention have to do with appreciation?

I tend to catch myself complaining, feeling the slowness of high humid temperatures, trying to keep my energy up and moving. Not easy. The other day I simply surrendered. A bowl of cherries, relaxing into propped up pillows and a few new magazines to peruse. Relaxing maybe would come naturally if I didn’t have the pesky habit of ‘staying busy.’ Even the magazines were business-related to keep the guilty feelings at bay.

But it is the cherries. The sweet perfection that gets my attention and guides me into the breath and calm of appreciation. Thank you summer for being present.

What sensations do you appreciate today?
